6 Ways to be Forever Young.






Is the belt strap a little tighter this year? Do you see dark circles beginning to take permanent residence under your eyes? Are there a few more greys on the noggin? Did you hear your knees crack when you strained to bend over to pick up the groceries?

Your body is telling you something.

And for many it's SCREAMING for their attention. There are 2 specifics we need to address when we are looking to slow down the aging process. Aging can take its toll when you allow your mind to tell you that your "getting old", and when you don't take care of your physical self by neglecting its needs. So both your mental/emotional state and your physical state are involved here. Just as it is for everything in general.

Get off the couch.


Get off your vino, beer, fried food, creamy this and that, and late night binges on crap. Stop watching endless hours of TV or movies, to zone out and not deal.


Stop abusing your temple.


And PLEASE start glorifying it with awesome vibrant food that nourishes not only every cell in your body, but your higher Self, because you are gracious for it and so thankful you can nourish your body to do what it needs to do day in and day out. And your whole BEING does quite a lot every single day. Why would you compromise that?



5 Ways to slow down the aging Process:

We are told that the obvious signs of aging are inevitable. Your skin will sag, your belly will get mushy, your hair will grey and you just can't feel like you did when you were 20.

BS!

My 80 year old retired doctor still runs every single day, and will complete another half marathon this year.

EXCUSES will get you simply where you already are.


1) LOSE WEIGHT: Belly or midsection fat increases your risk for the number one killer- heart disease. As little as 10 pounds over your ideal weight, also ups your chances for diabetes, cancer, lung disease, and arthritis.

Genetics are not at fault. So stop blaming your mom or dad. Get moving to get oxygen in your body, clean up that atrocious diet, and make time for relaxation and meditation. That is the only formula. Diets are for dummies, and you are smarter than that.


2) SUNSCREEN- natural that is. Avoid commercial chemical based sunscreens as they may actually cause disease. Instead go for a brand that makes a natural based product. This link lists the safe and natural ones to buy: http://breakingnews.ewg.org/2011sunscreen/

Actually all you need is 15 minutes a day to get enough Vitamin D to meet your needs. Just make sure you do that between 7-10am. Anytime after that, cover, cover and cover yourself. Frying under the sun will just make you look like a baked potato sooner than you think. My 85 year old grandmother had hardly a line on her face. Sure there is a genetic component, but she always said she avoided the sun even as a young girl under the Sicilian sole mio.


3) Antioxidant rich foods: Pile up on organic blueberries, black berries, and strawberries. Also superfoods like maca, raw cacao, spirulina, marine phytoplakton, Goji berries, moringo fruit, sea buckthorn berries (supplement form) are some of the many that will address aging skin, arteries, and the whole body.

The phytochemicals and anti oxidant properties slow down and clear out free radical damage which is the inevitable by-product of oxidation in your body. The body needs more, because if it is in less optimal condition it will take longer to regenerate, assimilate and eliminate.


4) Meditation and stress management: You must incorporate some type of stress management program in your daily life. Meditation in the form of prayer, mindful sitting practice, visually guided practice and chanting are some of the many you can choose from. You need to get still, quiet and turn the outer world off. Meditation is proven to enhance brain function, balance blood pressure, improve sleep and relieve emotional and psychological upset. Just look at those Buddhist monks and you'll see such a clarity to their whole being.


5) Sleep: You need to get at least 7 hours of uninterrupted snooze time. Our brains depend on sound sleep in order to restore, regenerate and function at peak levels. The body actually only needs maybe 3 or 4 hours. So make it a habit to get to bed before 11 and shut off the TV, MP3, and DVD action at least half hour before bedtime.


6) EXERCISE: This can't be stressed enough and its pretty self explanatory by now. You gotta move it or you lose it. Energy creates energy. So if you keep saying "I'm so tired, I can't exercise, I just don't feel like it". Than sooner than you think, you won't be able to move from that couch to even the kitchen.

Exercise engages both the cardio vascular system and muscular skeletal system. Keep those moving and you keep your whole self moving. Exercise will also help you lose or maintain weight and you will truly FEEL younger. You'll be able to do things, and function at higher states. You'll also keep that bod sexy and improve the libido, and who can say no to that?


Your body is your temple!


We treat our cars better than we treat ourselves. We treat out pets with Burberry raincoats, and then we fail to support our own essential needs. We treat the new leather couch as if it were gold and then fail to recognize that every heart beat brings life to each and every one of our cells.

When will the excuses stop? If they don't, they will eventually stop you without warning. I'm not out to scare you. You ultimately have the choice. It all comes down to whether you will love yourself enough to change and treat yourself right.

Let go of Your PAIN and feel Sane!






We have all experienced pain on some level in our lives. I'd like to talk about the deeper pain of our psyche and internal lives.

As a homeopath I learned that pain is definitely a symptom of an underlying imbalance. Pain is our personal warning system, and one of our best teachers. Pain will reveal to us where we need to place our awareness and ATTENTION.

I'm not saying we need to focus on our dis-ease, and use it to excuse our inactions to then become VICTIMS of it. That is living in pain with no awareness of its REAL voice and message.

Pain can be so valuable if you can just become STILL enough to LISTEN to it.

When you feel unloved, the pain may be so unbearable that anything is better than feeling it. Drinking, eating, sex, gambling, shopping, complaining, denying, and any other distractions we run to all seem like solutions. Yet that only perpetuates the symptom.

What you resist only persists. Your pain is REAL. No one can debate that. How you choose to see it and react to it, though is YOUR CHOICE.

If we can allow ourselves to get quiet enough, still enough to just be there for ourselves and allow the pain to speak its truth, then we can heal.


I'll tell you about my personal story with pain.

I dealt with low back pain for over a decade. It was a result of overdoing it in the gym in my teens. I didn't listen, and kept working out, and overworking out.

I also struggled with eating disorders which contributed to the problem. My back wasn't the problem. My fear, my insecurities, my unwillingness to stop, breath and be there for myself was the problem. AND my resistance to FORGIVE and ACCEPT myself blocked me from healing what needed my ATTENTION.

My last acute attack 4 years ago left me on the floor for almost 2 weeks. Doctors told me I might have degenerative disc issue and there was "nothing to do" except live with it and take codeine. I'll let you figure out what language I used to respond to that diagnosis.

I knew the pain was my teacher. I needed to listen and let go of controlling everything.

I literally slept, and lied on the floor the entire time. I crawled to the washroom, ate on my side on the floor, and was forced to DEAL with ME. So I did. I finally listened to the pain, its voice and what it needed from me. I gave it SPACE to reveal what is was wanting to tell me for YEARS!

The moment I did that, I was able to get up and move again. I haven't had an acute attack since.
I haven't had any discomfort, or issues in my yoga practice either. When before it always would be triggered.

What is your pain trying to express to you? Would you turn your back on a crying infant, who needed a hug? Would you leave that child knowing it was hurting and just needed your love?

Then why are you abandoning your pain, and your need for some love?


How do we SURRENDER and heal the pain?

The moment you core connect inwards, and use your breath to link to the LIFE FORCE that is always within YOU, is the moment you surrender to what is. Until we surrender, we remain captive to all the painful things that bind us to the realities we don't want to see. Remember those realities don't just surface from the external, without your participation in them.

Pain at its very best, is your friend and will give you the most precious learning experience you can ever have. It will allow you to FORGIVE what you haven't allowed yourself to let go.

Holding on to what is not serving us creates the pain we see manifest in our lives.

Be there for yourself. TRUST that your pain is temporary and just as impermanent as the material world you see. Breath into the pain, breath into your inner heart center, and breath into the places you have not trusted yourself to go.

Because the moment you step into your authentic Self and see what you have been so scared to see, you will be filled with so much compassion that the darkness dissipates into a NEW most awesome REALITY.

Just as Marianne Williamson is famously quoted as saying "It is not our darkness that we fear, but our LIGHT".

Breath. BEcome still, and listen. Healing follows.

Take FIVE and feel ALIVE!





Feeling vitality and awesome joy is truly our natural state of being. That may sound pollyannish to you but that is your perception.

Everything we think becomes our reality. We always have the choice. Where we place our attention is what becomes our manifestation.

Our past conditioning may have taught us that life is just "unfair". That life just is hard and that is just the "way it is". That people can't be trusted, that people are out to get us, that people are not inherently good and on and on an on go the litany of negative beliefs.

Which beliefs are you holding on to?

When you don't feel at ease in life, you create dis-ease in your whole being.

Which translates to depression or body pain, or fatigue, or disappointment and the worst one- VICTIMIZATION.

What thoughts do you engage with? Which thoughts are you giving your most vital energy to?

The answers to those questions will reveal exactly how you are experiencing your life, and more precisely the QUALITY of life you are living.


Take 5 to feel ALIVE!

Here is a practice I teach my clients for raising their energy and changing their dis-ease.

Take 5 minutes and do the following:

1) Stop- physically and mentally sit yourself down and pause for 5 minutes. You can do this. Don't make excuses you don't have the time. If you have the time to surf on facebook, than you have 5 minutes to HELP YOURSELF.

2) Now listen to your breath, and then go further. FEEL your breath. Close your eyes, and just feel the movement of your inhalations and exhalations. The breath is your direct link to the LIFE FORCE. You die if you don't get air. Breath and feel the cycle over and over and over again.

3) Be present for whatever is. So when those thoughts come to surface in your mind, gently say thank you and guide your point of focus back to your breath. Inhale and exhale. Inhale and exhale. You may even see those words as you do this. The point is not to block, or resist or push away anything. You simply OBSERVE and be there for YOURSELF without reacting with judgement or any kind of reaction to your thoughts. This is the practice of compassion :)


Take 5 and then feel how alive you truly are after this process. By just taking a moment to pause, feel and breathe. you engage the nervous system in a way that allows it to come out of survival mode, to growth or productive mode.

You allow yourself the opportunity to release the illusion of fear or threat and create an environment for every one of your cells to thrive.

5 Ways to Own Your Grace and ATTRACT anything YOU WANT!






We are blessed beyond our comprehension. Do you realize what your body does for you, just in it's physical form on a daily basis without your conscious effort? It's mind blowing.

  • Your liver performs over 500 functions in your body for you everyday! It filters over one liter of blood every minute!!!

  • The liver is capable of regenerating itself if a portion is removed.

  • You get a whole new stomach lining every 3 to 4 days. The acid in your stomach is so strong, that your body has to regenerate the cells this quickly.

  • Your heart (adult) pumps between 6,000-7, 500 litres of blood every day!

  • Your lungs contain over 300,000 million capillaries (tiny blood vessels). If they were laid end to end, they would stretch 2400km (1500 miles).

Our bodies do all of this and MORE, and mostly without our conscious effort! AND your body does its best even when you don't do YOURS. All those bottles of vino and vodka gotta go through somewhere before it gets out.

Our bodies are constantly trying to balance out any bad habits we have, like overeating, drinking, smoking, not exercising and more significant than all of that when you tell it, it's bad, ugly, not good enough, smart enough or attractive enough. It listens to every word or thought you tell it. It feels every judgement you place on it. Do you get that?

We need to awaken to how blessed we really are. We need to truly feel gracious that we can breath, eat, walk, see and think and create with all our being. We also need to start dialoguing not only with our bodies, but our WHOLE selves in a more LOVING and gracious manner.

Your health depends on this.

Graces flow to us every moment of every day, and let's truly begin to own that. Feeling gratitude brings you in alignment with your inner healing ability. It is one of the most powerful tools you have to prevent disease and increase vitality. The feeling comes from the heart center, or the "seat of compassion".

3) The power of a Smile- Lighten up! The moment you smile you create a whole cascade of chemical feel good reactions in your body. Smile for no reason. See what happens. It's really a fascinating thing. Smiling actually boosts your immunity and makes you look prettier. So what do you have to lose? ;)

4) The power of Thank you. When you say these two words you own your grace in the most powerful way. You are expressing to the Universe that you acknowledge you are already abundant and blessed. This creates such an immense energy of attraction to even more abundance and many many more Thank yous.

5) The people in your life. The people that you love, and care about are the most precious blessings we have. They affirm to us that we are deserving and worthy of love. OWN THAT! What I mean is, truly appreciate their existence and the guidance they offer you everyday.

RESPECT them for who they are and you receive even more of their greatness in your life. It creates a synergistic effect! When you appreciate their giving to you, you magnify the love with your appreciation and you then receive more and more.


Gratitude will open doors for you and infinitely magnify the joy and love in your life. You will see your reality change in a seemingly miraculous way when you really feel that gratitude on a consistent basis. That is the key. Feeling gracious every day and even when it may seem to be impossible to do so. That is when you need to own it even more.

How the Power of Choice Can Change Your Life






I've made some very real, and concrete changes in my life. I've discovered the new science of Neuroplasticity. The ability we have to change our brains- literally!

I am learning some very powerful applications of the mind. This topic is so juicy for me, I can't stop reading, researching and actually applying it and seeing the powerful results already manifesting in my life!

I've been so pumped up that it led me to start Project Me Before We. A direction of focusing my efforts, thoughts and energy into my own dreams, goals and Self, instead of looking for a mate.

Best choice I've made in a long time.

That simply is it. We ALWAYS have a choice in our life. We may live in chaotic systems, and more specifically the quantum matrix, however there is always order underlying chaos. 100% certainty in anything does not exist. However we ALWAYS have a choice as to which thoughts we CHOOSE to focus on, which actions we consistently take and which words we put forth in our world.

I've heard all the objections.

Piera, you don't understand I have kids screaming and a husband who isn't around, or my mother in law has been vile to me for the past 2 decades, or I've been in pain and struggling with a dis-ease and I can hardly walk up the stairs let alone affirm anything good in my life or I've got 2 aging parents who are now like kids and there is no time to breath, eat or visualize any of my dreams or my wife up and left me and took everything and you just can't let everything go!

Really?

My grandmother was one of 8 children during wartime and she didn't have time to complain. She made the bold, fearless choice to leave everything she knew and moved across an ocean with NO MONEY in her pocket and 4 small kids. She had no washing machine, no microwaves, no nannies, or daycare or free healthcare.

One of my best friends, lived in a not so great part of an urban US city, faced a tough upbringing by not a so loving father, then faced being left a single mom and yet has made huge strides in raising her own daughter to be courageous, strong and just as beautiful as her own mother.

A client of mine who has lived with HIV for the past twenty years, lived the torture of child neglect and abuse, kicked out at 16 and then struggled with years of drug dependancy. He now not only has cleaned his life, but he is a living testimony to the power of CHOICE. He teaches yoga and meditation and helps countless of people heal their minds, bodies and souls.

Quantum physics is fascinating because it states that all potentials and possibilities exist simultaneously and we then have the CHOICE to focus on any one of them. The atom we once studied in our science text books in grade 8 is now depicted in a whole new way.

No longer are a set number of particles surrounding a core nucleus. Every possibility surrounds the center and it's the ones that we CHOOSE to focus on that come into focus and materialize before our eyes.

Airy fairy? Ummmm no. Pure real science. Science that is evolving to include so much more than we can physically see with our eyes. I love this!

Every thought you have produces a chemical response. THAT IS FACT. We often don't have control of which thoughts arise, simply because the underlying subconscious mind generates them without our say in it.

BUT you do have a say in whether to entertain the thought and dwell on it or CHOOSE to direct your ATTENTION on another potential in the endless, infinite potentials that exist. You have the choice to not OWN another's comment, idea or criticism. It wasn't yours to begin with anyway. They CREATED that potential not YOU. Get it?

Everyday you wake up and have the choice in which direction you will direct your thoughts. And this is critical. Your THOUGHTS, chemically affect you, by encouraging or discouraging ACTIONS and INITIATIVES.

You CREATE your reality, not your boyfriend, not your ex partner, not your mother, not your "unfair" life. If we can truly learn the power of CHOICE we liberate our whole existence to LIVE the potentials WE DREAM OF and that EXIST in our deepest hearts of hearts and soul.

We also liberate the most powerful thing we have and that is the ability to LOVE and be LOVED.

Project ME before We, has a mandatory lesson before completion.

Loving YOURSELF, before loving another. Truly respecting your WHOLE self including the dark messy parts. HONOURING your VALUES, your sense of spirituality, and all the things that are not NEGOTIABLE.

If the belief in ONENESS is something that is intrinsically part of you as much as your left arm, than don't settle for someone who doesn't believe in that.

If being active, keeping fit and having a lifestyle that is health conscious is really who and how you live your life. than don't settle for someone that doesn't take care of their body, mind or soul with that same RESPECT.

If a picture of Mother Teresa in in your wallet, on your wall, on your dashboard, and you pray to her everyday and your partner thinks she was a fake, then don't settle for that energy to surround you.

If running naked in your backyard makes you feel alive and a better version of who you are, and your partner doesn't jive with it. Then jive with someone else.

You get the picture.

Because at the end of the day, if your heart doesn't sing, and you aren't CREATING amazing experiences and giving your world your BEST, and the one next to you isn't nurturing it, then what is the point of your existence?

Once you make the CHOICE to surround yourself with not just a partner but people in general that are in alignment with your deepest values and beliefs, then your deepest DREAMS and ASPIRATIONS are inevitable to MATERIALIZE!

I've seen it happen in so many people I know. I'm so gracious for this deeper awakening. Thank you God, the infinite intelligence.

The Master Cleanse begins!





So its that time of year again where I partake in my twice yearly cleanse. I usually do a full detox/ cleanse just after the summer, and close to the end of winter.

I'm going to start before the end of winter, because the Lenten season is earlier than usual. I find fasting helps not only the body, and mind to let go of the unnecessary junk and negative thoughts, but also lightens the spirit allowing for greater awareness to emerge.

When you fast your digestive system is given a huge holiday. So in essence you are allowing the energy that normally would go into digesting , assimilating and eliminating the food, to be directed to other processes, primarily detoxification.

Tips for cleansing:


Depending on what type of fast or cleanse you do, you will achieve different results. Not every cleanse is the same, and you should choose one according to your needs and goals. If you have never done a cleanse, are eating poorly, smoke, and drink alcohol it would not be advisable to start right off the bat on a water or juice fast. That would cause more stress to your system than good.

New to cleansing?

Decide where you are at with your health and diet. Perhaps you have gone to see your holistic health practitioner or doctor and been told your blood lipids were high (cholesterol) or your sugars are high (sign of possible Diabetes) or your blood pressure is high. You know you don't feel all too good, and lack the energy to get through your busy day. So now you have come to terms that lifestyle changes are a must.

Well begin with your diet. Clean it up. Get rid of anything that comes in a box, carton, bag, and can. It's all processed. Do that for a few months, along with incorporating psyllium fiber daily, superfoods and appropriate supplements such as PROBIOTICS. This way you prepare the digestive system for deeper cleansing. Shocking the body in any way, only serves to depress the immune system. And that is not the aim of cleansing.

101 on the Master Cleanse:

I've been on cleanses numerous times, and have tried quite a few different types. My good friend Zak mentioned The Master Cleanse and I got curious. I've done some research on it and it seems like a good way to reset the metabolism, eliminate cravings, encourage gentle detoxification, and improve total energy levels, and vitality. So I'm in.

It is basically a 10-15 day fast where you drink a mixture of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water throughout the day. It is not a no calorie or water fast. The maple syrup provides essential nutrients and calories. The combination of these ingredients is the key. All act synergistically to pull toxins from organs and cells.

You are encouraged to drink additional pure filtered water in addition to the lemonade. I would aim for 2-3L. Yes sounds like a lot, but during a cleanse you want to maximize the detoxification process as best as possible.

In addition to this a salt water flush daily is suggested to encourage the bowels to do their work.

The Master Cleanse relies on the premise of using the live enzymes from the lemon juice as alkalinizing catalysts. These encourage the liver and whole digestive tract to release toxic build up and restore organ functions.

Who should not do the Master Cleanse:

  • Pregnant or nursing mothers
  • Those recovering from an intense illness
  • Diabetics dependant on insulin
  • Those who have done very few cleanses or none at all
  • Those that require food to be taken with medications
  • Those looking for a quick fix to their weight problem. This is not intended to be used temporarily as a great way to fit into that dress for the wedding next week. The goal is to continue eating healthy, and not resort to the junk food lifestyle afterwards.

Healthy eating doesn't have to be bland, boring or rely on expensive "superfoods". We'll offer a plethora of recipies, and you'll have 3 full cooking lessons using organic and yummy foods.

  • AND LOTS OF FUN!!! We encourage lots of play time and fun island
    excursions that will bring you closer to the latin vibe and culture like never before. We also offer nightlife party fun for those of you wanna get groovy on the dance floor. We're all about BALANCE.







Nothing is set in stone. You may choose to opt out of some activities or not do yoga one morning. That is fine, and we want you to honour your own process and needs. We want you to listen to that Yogi within ;) If you need some extra me time and want to just chill for the afternoon, its your choice. But I'm sure you'll fall in love with us so much you won't want to let go.... ;)
